Though she tries returning to the life she knew before the accident, Pierce can’t help but feel at once a part of this world, and apart from it. Yet she’s never alone . . . because someone is always watching her. Escape from the realm of the dead is impossible when someone there wants you back.
But now she’s moved to a new town. Maybe at her new school, she can start fresh. Maybe she can stop feeling so afraid.
Only she can’t. Because even here, he finds her. That’s how desperately he wants her back. She knows he’s no guardian angel, and his dark world isn’t exactly heaven, yet she can’t stay away . . . especially since he always appears when she least expects it, but exactly when she needs him most.
But if she lets herself fall any further, she may just find herself back in the one place she most fears: the Underworld.
Hey Book Lovers,
I’m back with a mythology favorite of mine, ABANDON BY MEG CABOT! I absolutely love this book and its author! Funny story about this book, I read the second book Underworld first because I thought it was the first in the series. The entire time I was reading, I was so confused and felt like I was missing something (which of course I was). I eventually figured it out and read the first one. FYI I will not be posting the reviews as I read the books, this one is first and then I will post the next two in chronological order!
As you all know, I am a sucker for mythologies of any kind. Within that category, Hades and Persephone retellings interest me the most. This spin on the classic tale was interesting because it had almost nothing to do with the actual characters, more about the underworld. The concept was that there were many different “underworlds” for different islands and continents. The ones who rule these underworlds are called deities. John Hayden was killed then was chosen by the fates to bring people to their final destinations. Pierce Olivera was one of those dead souls but there was an instant connection between them so John took her back to his castle. Obviously, we can’t have our heroine be weak and compliant, she escapes and returns to the land of the living. A whole bunch of other events happens, each one drawing her closer and closer to John, finally two years later, she moves to Isla Huesos where John’s underworld resides. If you want to know what happens next? READ THE BOOK!
I proudly give this book:
