Throne of Glass by Sarah J Maas

Good Morning!

This week I am reviewing a book that I have been meaning to read forever. That’s right, it’s Throne of Glass by Sarah J Maas. Throne of Glass is one of the largest book fandoms out there, with the most recent book, Kingdom of Ash, being released in October of 2018. After people telling me to read it for years, I finally bought a copy!

Throne of Glass tells the story of Celaena Sardothien, a famed assassin within the Kingdom of Adarlan. After being captured and kept a prisoner in the Endovier salt mines for a year, Celaena is finally offered the promise of release under the condition she fights as the Crown Prince’s champion in a contest to determine the King’s Champion. If she wins the competition, she must serve as the Champion for four years and then she will be free. Celaena agrees and enters into the competition.

While reading this book, I found myself completely immersed in the world of the book. Sarah J Maas does a wonderful job world-building. I especially loved the amount of girl power in the book from Celaena and Nehemia. They are both strong women who would do anything to reach their goals.

One thing I didn’t really like about the book (or really about any book) was the sort of “love triangle” between Celaena, Prince Dorian, and the captain of the guard Chaol. Usually in a love triangle, I have one guy I root for over the other but in this case, I didn’t really have an opinion. Neither of these “relationships” was really explored in this book but maybe that will be remedied in the next book.

Rating

Overall this book is full of adventure, intrigue, and mystery which made it such a fun read. I finished the book in two days because once I started reading, I couldn’t stop and I am so excited to read the next installment, Crown of Midnight.

I give this book:
