Everless by Sara Holland

Good Morning everyone!

Today I am reviewing Everless by Sara Holland! Everless tells the story of a place called Sempra, where time is exchanged like currency. Taken from blood, made into stone, and consumed to extend one’s lifespan. The rich reap the benefits of this system, while the poor give their years in taxes. If you have ever seen the movie In Time with Amanda Seyfried and Justin Timberlake, this book has similar qualities.

The protagonist of the story, Jules Ember, used to serve with her father at Everless, a palace that housed one of the more wealthier families, the Gerlings. The served until an incident forced them to flee and hide among the impoverished of their world.

Now ten years later, when her father is close to death, Jules returns to Everless to earn more time for her father. There she learns just why Everless is so dangerous for her and learns more about herself.

Holland did a wonderful job world building in this novel. From the tale of the Sorceress and the Alchemist, to how the whole system of time currency worked, it was just such an immersive tale. Jules was a relatable character in that she wants to save her father’s life as well as learn more about herself.

Then there is the semi-love triangle between Liam Gerling, Jules, and Roan Gerling. I am hesitant to call this a love triangle because nothing develops throughout the book. Jules is in love with Roan and fears Liam, but as the book progresses and secrets of the past come to light, she begins to see Liam in a different light. Maybe this will be further explored in Evermore.

Overall I enjoyed reading this book and can’t wait to get my hands on the next one!

I give this book
