Hello Cursebreakers,
Today I am reviewing A Curse so Dark and Lonely by Brigid Kemmerer. This book was released on January 29th but I got it the 28th because I saw Brigid Kemmerer on the first stop in her book tour! She was there with one of my favorite authors of all time Jennifer L Armentrout! It was so surreal to get to meet them both! At that meet up I received my copy of a Curse so Dark and Lonely and got it signed by Kemmerer.
A Curse So Dark and Lonely (hereby referred to as ACSDAL cause the full name is a mouthful), is a retelling of Beauty and the Beast. In this story, Prince Rhen has been cursed by a witch so that every three months, he turns into a horrific beast that terrorizes his kingdom. The only way to break this curse is for someone to fall in love with him.
Enter our heroine Harper, she is strong-willed and passionate. She has spent the majority of her life helping her brother and mother. When she is “kidnapped” and taken to the Rhen’s kingdom, she does not go quietly. Over time, she learns about Rhen and sees how important his kingdom is to him, and she slowly falls in love with him as well.
One thing I really love about this book is Harper’s cerebral palsy. Not that she has the condition, but the fact she doesn’t let it stop her from doing anything. Harper fights through, learns to sword fight, rides horses, and doesn’t let CP affect her, even in this new world.
Brigid Kemmerer wrote a compelling tale that I instantly fell in love with. I can’t believe I have to wait until 2020 for the next installment!
I give this book:
Do you guys like retellings? What are your favorite ones? Answer in the comments!
