To Kill a Kingdom by Alexandra Christo Review

Good Morning Lovely humans,

I am so excited to share my review for To Kill a Kingdom by Alexandra Christo today! SO I know the Reading Rush was a while ago but this is one of the books I read for the challenge “Read a Book with a Non-Human MC.” I hope you enjoy the review!

Princess Lira is siren royalty and the most lethal of them all. With the hearts of seventeen princes in her collection, she is revered across the sea. Until a twist of fate forces her to kill one of her own. To punish her daughter, the Sea Queen transforms Lira into the one thing they loathe most—a human. Robbed of her song, Lira has until the winter solstice to deliver Prince Elian’s heart to the Sea Queen or remain a human forever.

The ocean is the only place Prince Elian calls home, even though he is heir to the most powerful kingdom in the world. Hunting sirens is more than an unsavory hobby—it’s his calling. When he rescues a drowning woman in the ocean, she’s more than what she appears. She promises to help him find the key to destroying all of sirenkind for good—But can he trust her? And just how many deals will Elian have to barter to eliminate mankind’s greatest enemy?

My Thoughts

It took me WAY longer than it should have to realize this was a Little Mermaid retelling! I actually had a lot of fun reading this book! It was inventive and dark and also really funny! For a little mermaid retelling, I was not expecting for it to be as dark as it was, and I also wasn’t expecting to laugh so hard as I did but it was just so much fun to read! This was my 3rd book read for Reading Rush 2019 and I am super happy to check it off my TBR! Being a standalone novel, the pacing was a little fast because of how much plot there had to be to fit into one book but overall the flow of the book was easy to read and I would recommend it to any retelling lovers out there!
