Good Morning Fellow Bibliophiles!
Today I have the pleasure of reviewing The Crowns Fate by Evelyn Skye! This is the second book in the Crowns Game duology (my review for the first installment can be found here). I hope you enjoy the review!
Summary
Russia is on the brink of great change. Pasha’s coronation approaches, and Vika is now the Imperial Enchanter, but the role she once coveted may be more difficult—and dangerous—than she ever expected.
Pasha is grappling with his own problems—his legitimacy is in doubt, the girl he loves loathes him, and he believes his best friend is dead. When a challenger to the throne emerges—and with the magic in Russia growing rapidly—Pasha must do whatever it takes to keep his position and protect his kingdom.
For Nikolai, the ending of the Crown’s Game stung deeply. Although he just managed to escape death, Nikolai remains alone, a shadow hidden in a not-quite-real world of his own creation. But when he’s given a second chance at life—tied to a dark price—Nikolai must decide just how far he’s willing to go to return to the world.
With revolution on the rise, dangerous new magic rearing up, and a tsardom up for the taking, Vika, Nikolai, and Pasha must fight—or face the destruction of not only their world but also themselves
My Thoughts
I really enjoyed this second installment of the Crowns Game duology. I think it expanded well beyond what we saw in the Crowns Game! I thought it was well written but my issue with the book is the unanswered questions and Nikolai’s entire arc. It seemed so rushed and I got extremely annoyed with his blatant disregard very quickly.
I also do not like how we did not get any answers about the source of magic which spoke to Vika in the heart of the volcano dream as well as why there were other magical occurrences happening around Russia (such as Baba Yaga). I wish this had been expanded into a trilogy but since it wasn’t I am left unsatisfied. This does not mean I did not like the book, just that I wish there had been more to it.
Rating
And that concludes the Crowns Game duology! I love it when I can say I’ve reviewed all the books in a series! It just brings me so much joy! Have an amazing day and let me know your thoughts below!
