Aurora Rising by Jay Kristoff and Aime Kaufman Review + Youtube!

Hello, you out of this World Readers!
That was cheesy but I am so excited to be reviewing a sci-fi novel today! I am reviewing Aurora Rising by Jay Kristoff and Aime Kaufman! Yes, these are the same authors of the Illuminae Files, and they are back with another full-cast adventure! In addition to this review, I have an even more in-depth book talk for this book so be sure to check that out below! Enjoy the review!

Summary

The year is 2380, and the graduating cadets of Aurora Academy are being assigned their first missions. Star pupil Tyler Jones is ready to recruit the squad of his dreams, but his own boneheaded heroism sees him stuck with the dregs nobody else in the Academy would touch…

A cocky diplomat with a black belt in sarcasm

A sociopath scientist with a fondness for shooting her bunkmates

A smart-ass techwiz with the galaxy’s biggest chip on his shoulder

An alien warrior with anger management issues

A tomboy pilot who’s totally not into him, in case you were wondering

And Ty’s squad isn’t even his biggest problem—that’d be Aurora Jie-Lin O’Malley, the girl he’s just rescued from interdimensional space. Trapped in cryo-sleep for two centuries, Auri is a girl out of time and out of her depth. But she could be the catalyst that starts a war, millions of years in the making, and Tyler’s squad of losers, discipline-cases and misfits might just be the last hope for the entire galaxy.

They’re not the heroes we deserve. They’re just the ones we could find. Nobody panic.

Review

Booktalk video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UWjUZKXXm4U&t=

I swear to god every time Aime and Jay get together to write a book, I always end in tears. This was a phenomenal science fiction/fantasy book. I loved the multiple POV and how we got a deep look into every character’s motivation and history (except really for Zila but I’m hoping we will get more of her in book two).

I definitely ship Kal and Auri together, they are adorable!! And that ending with Kat brought me to ugly tears! This book reminds me slightly of Across the Universe by Beth Revis, in that story, a girl on a passenger ship is woken early from her Cryosleep but besides that, this book was its own unique story with twists and turns leaving me breathless!
