A Heart so Fierce and Broken by Brigid Kemmerer Review

Hello Loves
So excited to be reviewing the second book in the Cursebreakers series by Brigid Kemmerer, A Heart so Fierce and Broken! I hope you enjoy it and be sure to leave your thoughts below!

Find the heir, win the crown.
The curse is finally broken, but Prince Rhen of Emberfall faces darker troubles still. Rumors circulate that he is not the true heir and that forbidden magic has been unleashed in Emberfall. Although Rhen has Harper by his side, his guardsman Grey is missing, leaving more questions than answers.
Win the crown, save the kingdom.
Rumored to be the heir, Grey has been on the run since he destroyed Lilith. He has no desire to challenge Rhen–until Karis Luran once again threatens to take Emberfall by force. Her own daughter Lia Mara sees the flaws in her mother’s violent plan, but can she convince Grey to stand against Rhen, even for the good of Emberfall?
The heart-pounding, compulsively readable saga continues as loyalties are tested and new love blooms in a kingdom on the brink of war.

I have so many mixed feelings about this book.
On one hand, I thought Brigid wrote a book that was so wonderfully different from ACSDAL and really showed us more of the world of Emberfall. I loved hearing about Grey’s story and loved the new Lia Mara, a totally badass heroine!
On the other hand, I did ot like the lack of Harper and Rhen in this book 🙁 I understand that is was necessary to show both sides of the story, but I felt that both Harper and Rhen were portrayed really unfairly throughout this book. For example, Rhen did a complete 180 spin from the last book and was painted in a more villainous light and I HATED THAT.
That character inconsistency is really what made me not like this book as much as the first. I feel as though Grey and Rhen were portrayed very differently than in the first book. I hope the third book fixes this but with the way the book ended, I am not sure. Very interested to see how Brigid ends the series!
