Getting Sick in College + Tips to Avoid it

Getting Sick in College – Yes it sucks.

College. A place filled with endless opportunities, fun adventures, and germs.

Yes, adjusting to this new environment does mean that you are likely to get sick within your first year. This phenomenon has been coined the Freshman Plague, and I caught it a few weeks ago.

It started with a sore throat, then a cough, and then I couldn’t move from my bed. I went to the health center in order to be diagnosed by a real doctor, and not Healthline. Thankfully, I did not have strep, just a pretty bad Post Nasal Drip, but damn, that recovery process was brutal.

I was prescribed an inhaler to deal with my constant coughing attacks. I took Nyquil and Dayquil every day for a week, and I was constantly drinking water. Getting up for my 8 AM class was brutal but I made it work.

After all that work, I finally started to see an improvement and while it sucked to be sick at school, I got through it. I was actually pretty impressed that I made it that long without getting sick.

No matter what, getting sick sucks, so I have compiled a list of tips to help you avoid the curse of the Freshman Plague!

I hope this list was helpful and I implore you all to stay healthy as we move into the colder parts of winter. 🙂
